DSH Gray Tabby

Domestic Shorthair Tabby cats are friendly, adaptable, and popular pets, known for their playful and independent personalities. These cats have a diverse range of coat colors and patterns, but the classic tabby pattern (with stripes, spots, or swirls) is their most common look. They are intelligent, social, and form strong bonds with their owners.

Habitat:
Provide a clean, comfortable living space for your tabby, ideally with access to cozy resting spots and vertical spaces for climbing. A litter box should be kept in a quiet, accessible area, and fresh water should always be available. Ensure their environment is free from extreme temperatures, drafts, or loud noises.

Diet:
Tabby cats are obligate carnivores. Their diet should consist mainly of high-quality cat food with animal-based protein, supplemented with fresh water. Avoid overfeeding and limit treats, particularly those high in fats or sugars. Cats should not be fed dog food or human food, especially anything toxic to cats (like chocolate or onions).

Socialization & Mental Stimulation:
Tabby cats thrive on social interaction and play. Regular engagement, such as interactive toys (like feathers or laser pointers) and scratching posts, helps keep them active and mentally stimulated. They enjoy companionship but can also entertain themselves when needed.

Health Care:
Monitor your tabby’s health by checking for changes in appetite, weight, or behavior, which may indicate illness. Regular vet check-ups are important for vaccinations, flea control, and dental health. Ensure their claws are trimmed and their ears, teeth, and coat are kept clean.

Grooming:
Shorthair tabby cats generally need minimal grooming, but regular brushing helps reduce shedding and hairballs. Bathing is typically unnecessary unless the cat gets into something sticky or dirty. Keep their litter box clean to ensure proper hygiene.

Life Expectancy:
Domestic Shorthair Tabby cats typically live 12–16 years, though some can live longer with proper care. Providing a balanced diet, regular vet visits, a safe and stimulating environment, and lots of affection will help ensure your cat’s health and happiness for many years.
